- The major variable in water balance is sweat
- Most sweat is "insensible" and unmeasurable.
- Sweating increases with activity, winter or summer.
- Sweating increases with ambient temperature.
- The most intense sweating occurs
- with intense physical labor
- (not often seen in pilots)
- in hot conditions
- Sweat rates: 50 to 1600 ml/hr
- Sodium content (blood is .9%)
- .3% if unacclimatized
- .03% if acclimatized (takes 3 - 5 days)
- Acclimatization is lost in 2 days...
