Vection Illusions False-Motion Illusion
- In your automobile at a stoplight: is your car creeping or your neighbor's?
- Pivot altitude: the center of opposite vection illusions
- Above it: the inside wing seems to sweep back across the terrain as you turn
- Below it: the inside wing fails to move backwards; "correcting" this causes over- ruddered, skidding turns, which cause stalls.
- When low, we seem to fly very fast: this can lead to low airspeed on base and final.
- Together, these promote the famous spin during the turn from base to final.
