Senility Versus Aging
Only about 10% of people experience senility
There is an abatement of talent with age
- Reflexes
- Working Memory
- Visual acuity, contrast resolution
- Resiliency
- Strength
But accident rates decrease with age
- Reduced risk taking
- Added experience; improved judgment
Notes:
Everyone ages; everyone experiences some decline of ability with time. These include reflexes, vision changes, and working memory most importantly.
If we live long enough, our body begins to fail physiologically: senescence.
If our brain becomes diseased, this may bring senility.
Normally people detect, at some point, the changes in ability the aging brings, and adjust to them. The consequence is that good judgment and experience yield reduced accident rates despite a loss of ability.
