Bath Place Hotel comprises a group of seventeenth century cottages surrounding a flagstone courtyard in the heart of Oxford. The cottages date back to the early sixteen hundreds and were originally built by Flemish weavers who were granted permission to build against the outside of the city wall. Prior to this it is believed that there was a communal well and bathhouse on the site.
The cottages nestle between New College (one of the oldest of the University) and Hertford College (established in the thirteenth century). Next to the hotel is Turf Tavern; the oldest inn in the city.
The hotel is on Holywell Street, toward the west end, across from The Music Room theater.

New College entrance and tower. New College was founded in 1379, about 200 years after the University came into existence. It is one of the largest and best-known colleges, and, to its inhabitants, undeniably one of the most beautiful.

Looking east along Broad Street from in front of Trinity College.
At the left is the Clarendon Building, originally build to house the Oxford University Press printing works. OUP books still bear the "Clarendon Press" imprint, though this building has long been part of the Bodliean Library. It was designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor, a pupil of Christopher Wren, and built in 1712.
Center is the Sheldonian Theater, built 1664-1669, desinged by Christopher Wren when was 31, a professor of astronomy, and modeled after teh Marcellus Theratre in Rome. It was paid for by the Archbishop of Canterbury and university chancellor, Mr. Sheldon, and so in the ancient tradition, he purchased "naming rights."
