The Bate Collection of musical instruments is alleged to be a wonderful collection of ancient instruments. A collection of historical woodwind, brass and percussion instruments; over a dozen historical keyboard instruments; a complete bow-maker's (William Retford) workshop and a collection of bows; and the Javanese gamelan Kyai Madu Laras. If you wish to see any, be sure to investigate its hours, which are very limited. It's only open during school term, 2-5 pm. See http://www.ashmol.ox.ac.uk/bat/openhrs.html

I'm not in the photography business, but if you'd like a print of any, these photos in real life are all 6x4.5 cm color negatives (unless noted otherwise), and we can arrange this through Photos, Inc., of Minneapolis. I send them my negative and you send them your charge card number and address, and in a week or two you'll get a print. email me at drdan AT wwt.net if you wish to pursue this.
